Beauty Queen: Queenie Rose Yve Q. Alegado

Queenie is Candidate #10 in the much celebrated Queen Mother of Cebu 2024 beauty pageant. She is proud to be representing Carcar City, Cebu

How did you get into pageantry? What made you want to compete?

Queenie: I came from a broken family. I’m the oldest among 5 children, and pageantry leads me to believe that a poor daughter like me can slay. Because in a big stage, there’s always an equal opportunity for all to prove their capacity. And in pageantry, I always forget that I am just an ordinary girl because a mother and a teacher believe in me, that I can do more and that I can be more.

What does beauty mean to you? It’s more than just looks, right?

Queenie: Beauty, for me, is how you deal with other people. If you’re dealing with them right and properly, you’ll always be beautiful in their eyes. And in contrast, if you’re dealing with them negatively, they’ll never see the beauty in you. Because beauty is more than just looks, it is what we have seen inside.

What makes you special? What sets you apart from the other contestants?

Queenie: I’m always stressed, “in a good way”. I do have a lot of affiliations in school since I am a DepEd teacher, an extraordinary (self-proclaimed) MAPEH teacher, not just teaching inside the classroom but also teaching and coaching in the field of dancing and singing. Also, in the community since I and my husband are the In Omnibus Christus-Choir Leaders of the Venerable Teofilo Camomot Shrine and San Roque Parish. I am the adviser and he’s the choir master along with us are my brothers and sisters, cousins, plus my kids with our second family, my former students and now part of our choir group. In short, I don’t have a day off. I am doing it not for myself, but for the people who believe in me and the people who need me. And I’m unique because I can sing, I can dance, I can write and compose a song, I can choreograph a dance, I can do my own make-up, and I can also do your make-up. I can do a lot of things even if it’s not that good, but at least I am always willing to help, and most of it are under charity works.

If you win, how would you use your title to help others?

Queenie: If I win in this competition, my voice will surely be heard, and I will use this opportunity to strengthen my advocacy, which is strong parental support and guidance, highlighting the emotional needs of our kids in all ages. This might not be as powerful as other advocacies, but this is achievable and attainable and I am living with it today, as a very supportive mom to my kids and a second mom to my students. I am not just their mother, but I am also their mentor and their believer. I know that all of us have this voice to command and demand something to others, but we really need a title and a name for us to be heard.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve learned from being in pageants?

Queenie: It’s so cool because the stage has been my playground ever since. I can express the other positive side of me by performing in character, just enjoying the beat of the music and chin up.

How do you deal with people who might say mean things?

Queenie: Say mean things also! But, all in the good way, if the word is harsh, just be gentle on your tone, but if the tone is harsh, be gentle on your words.

Tell us about a time something amazing happened during a pageant!

Queenie: There’s always magic, most especially during the gown portion. You can feel that you’re the most beautiful woman in the world, bringing your long gown with grace and compassion, it is so satisfying.

What kind of person do you think does well in pageants?

Queenie: A person who walks the talk. A realistic and a strong one who is selfless and beautiful inside and out.

Being in a pageant means a lot of people are watching. How do you stay yourself through it all?

Queenie: Just know when to and when not to since there’s always a right time for everything.

What do you dream of doing in the future, pageant world or not?

Queenie: Still in a pageant world, I might not be joining again, but I’ll be a forever fan.
