Beauty Queen: Chenie Quillope Moreno

Chenie is a gorgeous candidate in the Mutya ng San Francisco 2024 beauty pageant. By reading her bio below, you will quickly learn she is intelligent, a fighter, and an advocate for single moms. She is basically a pageant manager’s dream contestant.

What inspired you to participate in this pageant?

Growing up, I’ve always wondered how it feels to be on stage, smiling and carrying yourself with so much elegance and confidence. That curiosity led me to participate in beauty pageants. This is my second time joining Mutya Ng San Francisco. I first joined in June 2019 and was crowned Mutya Ng San Francisco Tourism 2019. That alone inspires me to make a comeback after five long years, hoping to get the crown in this year’s MUTYA NG SAN FRANCISCO.

What qualities do you think are important for a beauty queen?

Personally, I think a beauty queen should be beautiful and intelligent, and most importantly, true to herself and her purpose. A beauty queen is not just a woman who’s pretty and brilliant; she should also be a woman of substance who carries her advocacy with her and makes things possible to inspire others.

How do you plan to use your platform if you win this pageant?

If I am given the chance to win this year’s competition, I would like to advance my advocacy, “NAILS THAT PROVIDE; A TRAINING FOR UNEMPLOYED SOLO PARENTS IN SF, ADS.” It aims to help unemployed solo parents gain skills in nail enhancement and encourage livelihood. As a home-based nail technician, I want to use my skills to help others earn a living. I have experienced firsthand how learning these skills can help financially and be sustainable, especially if you put your heart and mind into it.

How do you stay confident and maintain a positive attitude during the competition?

I believe that staying confident and having a positive attitude in every competition should start with appreciating yourself. Know that you are beautiful in your own way and capable of doing things. Learn to see the beauty in yourself that others might not see. By doing so, you can earn confidence and power within you.

What challenges have you faced during your pageant journey, and how have you overcome them?

After a year of not engaging in any pageant and focusing on my other career as a nail technician, I must admit I gained weight. This is one of the challenges I faced in this pageant journey, but I was able to overcome it through discipline and the mindset that every sacrifice you make will always be worth it in the end.

What do you think sets you apart from the other contestants in this pageant?

Each of us in this competition has our own qualities and capabilities, but I believe what sets me apart is the fact that I am a self-made person—no backer, no inheritance, and no fallbacks. It’s just pure hard work, passion, and determination. I started joining beauty pageants at the age of 16 to support myself and my family. I am also a go-getter and a strong believer of “You’ll never know unless you try.”

How do you balance your pageant duties with other responsibilities in your life?

After I graduated from college last year, my plans to pursue my dream career of being a Flight Attendant were redirected to being a Certified Home-based Nail Technician. Since it is home-based and I control my schedule, I haven’t had a hard time balancing my pageant duties and other responsibilities. This has allowed me to focus on my preparation for this year’s MUTYA NG SAN FRANCISCO.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing young women today, and how can it be addressed?

One of the biggest issues young women face today is teenage pregnancy. Aside from advocating livelihood, I also advocate for contraceptive access for highly vulnerable youth. Teenage pregnancy is increasing at an alarming rate, especially in the Philippines. It affects not only the teenager and her family but also society in general. To address this issue, I believe contraceptives should be convenient, affordable, and personalized. Pregnancy is preventable with proper knowledge and information, allowing everyone to follow their desired family planning.

How do you plan to give back to your community if you win this pageant?

I plan to give back to my community by focusing on my advocacy, “NAILS THAT PROVIDE; A TRAINING FOR UNEMPLOYED SOLO PARENTS IN SF, ADS.” This is what I want to do, and I will ensure that my advocacy is not just a dream. I will make it happen not only for myself but also for the people I advocate for.

What advice would you give to young women who are considering entering a pageant?

The advice I would give to young women who dream of becoming beauty queens is to always follow what your heart desires and never let anyone hinder you from achieving your dream. Train your heart and mind to always see the beauty and purpose within you, and carry it with confidence.
