Skin whitening is popular in the Philippines, but it’s delightful to know that many Filipinas choose to embrace their natural Morena (tanned) skin. Morena skin is truly beautiful, and you can enhance it even more with the following makeup tips:

Choosing the perfect foundation that matches your exact skin tone can be tricky, so you can mix two foundations until you achieve the closest shade to your skin tone. Avoid selecting a foundation that is lighter than your skin tone. Don’t hide your awesome morena skin.

Select a concealer that is one shade lighter than your foundation. Apply it under your eyes, on the sides of your nostrils, the corners of your lips, the center of your nose, forehead, and chin. Aside from concealing, the concealer will also highlight your features.

Choose a powder that matches your foundation color or use transparent powder. Using a powder brush, dab it all over your face or on the T-zone area if you want to maintain the dewiness of other parts of your face.

Show off your gorgeous morena skin with coral, rose, or deep orange blush that complements your complexion. Start blending from the apples of your cheeks upwards. Do not use blush for contouring. If you want to contour your face, use a contour powder that is at least three shades darker than your skin tone.

Highlighters/illuminators work perfectly on morena skin because the effect is quickly noticeable. It gives your skin a warm, golden glow. Apply the highlighter/illuminator only on specific points of your face—cheekbones, under the eyebrows, center of the forehead, nose, cupid’s bow, and chin.

Morena skin is a perfect canvas for pastel eyeshadows like pink, green, purple, etc. The richness of these colors quickly stands out on Morena skin.

If you’re not a fan of pastel colors and are more comfortable with nude colors, that’s not a problem because it also suits Morena skin. So, perfect the smokey eyes ala J.LO.

One of the struggles for Morena individuals is finding the right lip shade. Don’t worry because there’s a way to know what’s right for you. You need to determine if you have cool or warm undertones. Look at the veins on your inner wrist. If you see blue veins, you have cool undertones. Green veins indicate warm undertones. If you see both blue and green, you have neutral undertones. Another way to determine your undertone is through the White Test vs. Cream Test. Get white and cream fabric or even a towel. Wear or place them against your skin. If white complements you, you have warm undertones. If cream complements you, you have cool undertones. If both work, you have neutral undertones. The last way to know your undertone is through jewelry. If yellow gold jewelry complements your skin, you have warm undertones. If silver complements you, you have cool undertones. If both work, you have neutral undertones.

For those with cool undertones, bright red lip shades are suitable. For those with warm undertones, coral or orange shades are ideal. Dark mahoganies and deep browns work well for both cool and warm undertones.
