What inspired you to become a beauty pageant trainer, and how did you get started in this field?

Initially, I was hesitant to pursue this career because at first, I just did pageants for fun and leisure.  However, after attending several training sessions and workshops with mommy Jonas, I developed a keen interest in the field and realized my passion for helping young women achieve their dreams.

I started assisting mommy Jonas in training aspiring beauty queens and eventually started conducting training sessions on my own. I realized that helping these women build their confidence and showcase their talents on stage was extremely rewarding and fulfilling. Over the years, I have trained numerous beauty queens who have gone on to win national and international titles.

What inspires me is the transformation that these women undergo during the training process. From shy and introverted individuals, they transform into confident and empowered women who are ready to take on the world. It is this transformation that drives me to continue my work as a beauty pageant trainer and help young women achieve their goals and dreams.

What do you believe are the most important qualities or skills that aspiring beauty pageant contestants should possess?

I believe that aspiring beauty pageant contestants should possess the following qualities and skills:

Confidence

Poise and grace:

Communication skills:

Dedication and hard work

Charisma and personality

And most importantly CONSISTENCY

Consistency is what matters to me truly, you know, in pageants, anyone can win, but only few are truly true in their causes.  It’s not just about who is the best speaker because it can always be Orchestrated but if I see someone who is consistent and persistent, then she can be the one!

Overall, a combination of these qualities and skills can help aspiring beauty pageant contestants stand out from the competition and increase their chances of success

How do you tailor your training approach to meet the individual needs and goals of each contestant you work with?

As a beauty pageant trainer, I believe that every contestant is unique and has their own set of strengths, weaknesses, and goals. And so, I tailor my training approach to meet the individual needs and goals of each contestant I work with.

Personalized coaching: I work closely with each contestant to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and goals. Based on this, I develop a personalized coaching plan that focuses on improving their specific areas of weakness and enhancing their strengths.

Customized training sessions: I design training sessions that are customized to each contestant’s needs and goals. For example, if a contestant needs to work on their public speaking skills, I will design training sessions that focus on improving their communication skills and confidence on stage.

Feedback and evaluation: I provide regular feedback and evaluation to each contestant to help them understand their progress and identify areas for improvement. This feedback is tailored to each contestant’s individual needs and goals.

Motivation and support: I provide motivation and support to each contestant to help them stay focused and motivated throughout the training process. I believe that a positive and supportive environment is essential for contestants to succeed in the beauty pageant industry.

My approach to training is highly individualized and focused on helping each contestant reach their full potential. I believe that by tailoring my training approach to meet the unique needs and goals of each contestant, I can help them achieve their dreams and succeed in the beauty pageant industry.

Can you share some success stories or memorable experiences from your work as a beauty pageant trainer?

Luckily, I got the chance to work with some of these Beauty Queens we have, like Miss Universe Philippines 2019 Gazini Ganados, Miss International Queen 2022 Fuschia Anne Ravena, Miss Universe Philippines Cebu 2024 Kristefany Janson, and of course, my favorite Steffi Rose Aberasturi. Gabriella Carballo, Miss Cebu, and just recently, Mary Love Lopez, who was crowned as Mutya sa Tagbilaran 2024, among others. I also trained transwomen, male pageant kings, teenagers, and kids.

I am also getting invitations as the official pageant trainer to some of the local pageants here in Cebu and outside like Miss Argao, Miss Medellin, Bb. Balamban, Miss San Fernando, Bb. Naga, Miss Lapu-Lapu, Miss Lobo, Batangas, Miss Carmen, Miss Toledo, Miss Cebu 2022 and a lot more.  I am also getting invitations to train in some other areas in Luzon and Mindanao, but most of the time here in Visayas.

And I would say those are all memorable and I really do cherish every single time I am with them and I am forever grateful for their love and trust.

What advice do you have for contestants who may struggle with confidence or stage presence?

Confidence and stage presence are two of the most important qualities that a beauty pageant contestant should possess. However, not everyone is naturally confident or comfortable on stage. So, I would advise contestants who may struggle with confidence or stage presence to:

Practice, practice, practice: The more you practice your stage performance, the more comfortable and confident you will become.

Visualize success: Visualize yourself succeeding on stage. Imagine yourself walking confidently, smiling, and nailing your talent performance. This can help you build confidence and reduce any anxiety or nervousness.

Focus on your strengths: Identify your strengths and focus on showcasing them on stage. This will help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin.

Be prepared: Make sure you are well-prepared for the pageant. This means practicing your talent, having your outfits ready, and knowing your talking points.

Embrace your uniqueness: Remember that you are unique and special in your own way. Embrace your individuality and let your personality shine on stage.

Surround yourself with positive and supportive people who believe in you and your abilities. This can help you build confidence and feel more comfortable on stage.

And most importantly, maintain a positive mindset. I always tell my protégés to set their mind positively because YOU ARE WHAT YOU THINK.

How do you stay updated on the latest trends and techniques in the beauty pageant industry, and how do you incorporate them into your training programs?

To be completely honest, I never stop learning. Every day, I study, research, listen, read, and watch everything that I believe can be helpful to me and my growth as a Pageant Trainer. Through learning every day, I am able to share this with my protégés (trainees). After all, it’s my job to study for them as well.
