Beauty Queen: Beatriz B. Cabañero

Beatriz B. Cabañero; representing Inayawan, Cebu City

So, what led you to step into the world of pageantry? What ignited your desire to compete?

Beatriz: I dipped my toes into pageantry during my teenage years, and the rush it gave me was incredibly satisfying. Plus, I’ve always had a knack for public speaking, which plays a significant role in the pageant world.

When you think of beauty, what comes to mind? It’s more than just appearances, isn’t it?

Beatriz: Beauty, to me, goes beyond outward appearances. It’s about one’s demeanor and presence. Each of us sees beauty through our own lens, shaped by our unique backgrounds. Hence, regardless of where we come from, beauty remains subjective, residing solely in the eyes of the beholder.

What makes you stand out? What distinguishes you from the other contestants?

Beatriz: What sets me apart is my journey as a teenage mom. That experience sculpted me into the strong, resilient mother I am today. Bold, fierce, and definitely a go-getter. I hustle relentlessly to provide for my kids, earning me the title of one tough Mama Bear. I’m someone who’s ready to chase after my dreams with unwavering determination.

Should you win, how do you plan to utilize your title to make a difference in the lives of others?

Beatriz: If crowned Queen Mother of Cebu 2024, I’ll strive to turn my advocacy for autism acceptance into reality. This cause hits close to home as I have a 14-year-old son with ASD and a 2-year-old son showing signs of mild autism. I aim to leverage my title to connect with the right individuals and establish an autism center in Cebu.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from your pageant experiences?

Beatriz: The greatest lesson I’ve imbibed is to always remain open-minded. Pageantry exposes you to people from diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and values. While we may not always see eye to eye, keeping an open mind allows me to approach them with respect.

How do you handle negativity from others?

Beatriz: We call them “bashers.” I’ve never been one to seek approval from others, and often, I encounter comments about how I may have intimidated someone. Personally, I choose to brush them off and move forward. You can’t control how others treat you, but you can control how much attention and reaction you give them. I refuse to give mean-spirited individuals the satisfaction of my time and energy. I simply block them and move on.

Share a memorable moment from your pageant journey!

Beatriz: In QMC 2024, every interaction with my fellow mommies feels extraordinary. Despite my packed schedule, spending time with my co-candidates is something I eagerly look forward to. Engaging in mommy conversations provides a much-needed social outlet, especially since I started working from home.

What qualities do you think are essential for excelling in pageants?

Beatriz: I believe genuine connections are key. Each interaction with my fellow mommies feels like a treasure. Amidst my hectic life, these moments offer relaxation and rejuvenation. Simple conversations with other moms fulfill my social needs, which I’ve felt were lacking since transitioning to remote work.

With the spotlight on you during a pageant, how do you stay true to yourself?

Beatriz: Staying authentic is my compass. Being genuine never steers you wrong. Authenticity is a rare gem nowadays, and I hope to inspire other moms to embrace their true selves and shed the weight of pretense.

What aspirations do you hold for the future, whether in the pageant world or beyond?

Beatriz: My ultimate dream is to invest in and grow my business to secure my family’s future. As for my passion for pageantry, I aspire to mentor and coach other inspiring moms who dream of gracing the pageant stage.
