Beauty Queen: Wilgirl Romeral

Wilgirl is Candidate #14 in the Queen Mother of Cebu 2024 beauty pageant. She is representing Busay, Cebu City

How did you get into pageantry? What made you want to compete?

Wilgirl: This is everyone’s dream to become a beauty queen. When I joined this women’s group, I participated in pageantry twice and I won twice. I am now aiming to join a bigger pageant, and now my dream has come true. I am one of the aspirant candidates of QMC, and for me, I consider it a crown.

What does beauty mean to you? It’s more than just looks, right?

Wilgirl: When we were young, of course, we saw beauty in appearances and looks of a person. But when we aged, beauty for me is not just looks, but it is how you treat other people, how you touch others’ hearts, listen to their stories, and inspire others with your good words of advice. It’s about seeing the goodness in that person’s heart.

What makes you special? What sets you apart from the other contestants?

Wilgirl: God made us unique because we women are the only human beings who can give another life in this world. And what makes me special is having the patience that can hold my emotions and not easily get mad.

If you win, how would you use your title to help others?

Wilgirl: If given a chance to win Queen Mother of Cebu, I will give my commitment, yes, the commitment to go out of my comfort zone and to help the sponsored foundation of this organization. And to pursue my advocacy, which is Women Empowerment focusing on women and their children, to enable them to speak up and to know their rights as women.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve learned from being in pageants?

Wilgirl: The coolest thing I’ve learned may sound funny, but it’s true. I found it cool when I danced TikTok with my co-candidates.

How do you deal with people who might say mean things?

Wilgirl: I usually ignore negativity. I don’t entertain this kind of attitude. My rule is when I’m not home, I want to spread my wings and be happy.

Tell us about a time something amazing happened during a pageant!

Wilgirl: Since this is my first time joining this big pageantry, what amazes me is our busy schedule. Sounds funny, but it makes me feel like I’m joining Miss Universe. The press conference, catwalk, the mind-blowing quick thoughts, it’s all so real. It feels like MU.

What kind of person do you think does well in pageants?

Wilgirl: Besides being witty and smart, you should be kind to other people, as I believe good behavior is a must.

Being in a pageant means a lot of people are watching. How do you stay yourself through it all?

Wilgirl: First things first, watch your words that might hurt others or use foul language. And lastly, be yourself, that’s it.

What do you dream of doing in the future, pageant world or not?

Wilgirl: I think not in the pageant world. Joining QMC is a nice experience for me. But what I dream of is to stay with the organization. I want to become a volunteer worker for them.
