Beauty Queen Myth Anisca T. Maguate: Winner of the Queen Mother of Cebu 2023 (First Winner)

Myth represents QUIOT, Cebu City. Keep scrolling to see the long list of accomplishments this Queen Mother brings to the table.

How did you get into pageantry? What made you want to compete?

Myth: My first pageant was when I was 7 years old, which makes me experienced with pageantry for over 32 years. From my own personal interest and hobby, it has developed to be my passion. I wanted to join to develop my skills and improve myself as a whole. With the constant support of my late mother, I was able to discover colorful world of pageantry.

What does beauty mean to you? It’s more than just looks, right?

Myth:  Beauty is subjective and preferential as it is highly dependent on one’s personal definition. We all can look different to people. For me, I define beauty as power, relevance and purpose. There’s so much more a woman can do without using her looks. We can start with her voice to provide positive influence to others. Once established, the rest should follow.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve learned from being in pageants?

Myth: Every endeavor is a learning experience. I am a firm believer that life is a constant learning process. It’s cool to be humble. Never think that you are above everyone else since there’s so much for you to learn. Be kind, be authentic and share the knowledge you’ve learned through experience.

How do you deal with people who might say mean things?

Myth: Stay happy! Dealing with people who say mean things can be challenging. While it’s tempting to brush it off and try to stay happy, it’s important to acknowledge that their words might stem from their own insecurities or issues. Remember, their behavior reflects them, not you. However, it’s also okay to express that you don’t appreciate mean-spirited comments. Communication is key, and having a calm discussion about it can often resolve the issue without any negative consequences.

Tell us about a time something amazing happened during a pageant!

Myth:  Being the pageant enthusiast that I am, every single pageant I joined has been amazing. New exposures, new experiences, new connections. Translating to new lessons, new memories, new relationships that I can take with me as I age and turn gray; a beautiful story I can tell my grandchildren. Isn’t that amazing!

What kind of person do you think does well in pageants?

Myth: Pageantry is a challenging arena of talents and potentials. I have witnessed from experience that those who will arise victorious are those who are strong-willed, dedicated, focused and humble. Someone who appreciates that she is teachable, and that there will always be people greater and lesser than we are. Humble in victory, gracious in defeat.

Being in a pageant means a lot of people are watching. How do you stay yourself through it all?

Myth:  Authenticity is non-negotiable for me. I can’t be in a pageant half-hearted. It brings me so much comfort knowing that I have prepared myself and not someone else’s version. Once you know your reasons and why you do what you do, staying yourself is just a walk in the park.

What do you dream of doing in the future, pageant world or not?

Myth:  Being a special needs parent, I would like to actively participate in missions that can better support the Autism community. I would like to coordinate with others who share the same cause. This world is already overwhelming for our autistic children; I would like to contribute to making this world a more comfortable place for them to exist and succeed.
