The stunningly beautiful Charmell is candidate #4 in the Binibining Tuburan beauty pageant. She has the talent and desire to go very far in the pageant world so expect to hear her name in the near future.
So, how did you get into pageantry? What made you want to compete?
I wasn’t initially interested in pageants because I was self-conscious about my appearance, especially my bunny cheeks. I felt unfit for it because I despised myself, but I soon realized that it’s important to accept your imperfections since they are what make you genuinely special and attractive. I also came to the realization that my family and friends are the main reason why I should compete in the world of pageantry since they have been there for me through all of my uncertainties.
What does beauty mean to you? It’s more than just looks, right?
Beauty, in my opinion, is more than just appearance. Beauty is perceived from within and is not solely determined by outward appearance. Since we all see beauty differently, it can be demonstrated in various ways. For me I consider someone to be beautiful when they are kind and sympathetic because i believe that is the true essence of beauty.
What makes you special? What sets you apart from the other contestants?
I find it easy to socialize with other candidates because I’m outgoing and conversational, but I don’t listen to those who, in my opinion, are too full of themselves or who disparage others in an effort to improve their spirits. I avoid being around manipulators because I don’t want to be manipulated.
If you win, how would you use your title to help others?
In the event that I have the chance to win, I will use my position to promote humanitarianism among the community. I want to have an impact on the youth of this generation and prepare them to be role models for those after them. My advocacy is based on the idea that even the most challenging issues can be resolved with cooperation, harmony, and oneness.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve learned from being in pageants?
Being in pageant means that you can be the voice of the voiceless. You can use the stage as a way to express your ideas, views, and perspectives in order to promote ones advocacy and showcase my enthusiasm for pageantry.
How do you deal with people who might say mean things?
To deal with such people all I have to do is ignore them. All they can do is hate so why would I care? There might be some instances where I feel so disheartened but I’ve learned that the best approach is to neglect hateful comments and focus on improving myself.
Tell us about a time something amazing happened during a pageant!
I was quite apprehensive and nervous during my first pageant. I couldn’t help but feel that everyone was watching me every time I left the backstage area, waiting for me to make a mistake and end up as a laughingstock. However, my classmates, relatives, and even my teachers cheered so loudly as soon as I stepped outside. That was when I started to feel so fortunate and joyful and my anxiety started to fade and I unexpectedly won the title.
What kind of person do you think does well in pageants?
Three qualities, in my opinion, are required for someone to succeed in pageants. She must, first and foremost, be diligent enough to complete all the necessary work;  second, she must possess the emotional and mental fortitude to handle offensive comments; and third , she must be confident and empowered.
Being in a pageant means a lot of people are watching. How do you stay yourself through it all?
All I have to do is to enjoy the show, give my best and avoid putting too much pressure on myself.
What do you dream of doing in the future, pageant world or not?
If given a chance, then I would gladly continue in this pageant world while doing my studies as a college student
