A Multi-Talented Beauty Queen: Eri-Rose Ong

Eri was born in Butuan City and is a half Chinese-half Filipina. As early as 14 years old, she joined her first community pageant and was crowned as Miss Magallanes 2013. During her high school years, as someone who came from a broken family, she poured all of her time into the academics excelling in different fields such as school band, talent festivals, journalism, and campus organizations, and became a consistent first honor student in her class majoring in Creative Writing.

She then moved to Iligan City when she was 16 y.o to pursue her college degree at Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology and eventually graduated as Magna Cum Laude in her chosen field. But graduating was not as easy as it seems as she experienced the unpleasant reality of adulting at an early age, finding multiple ways to survive and support her studies from being a scholar, working as a part-time waitress of catering businesses, and having her own online swimwear shop call Just Basic.

Aspiring to be a flight attendant, she ventured to the capital city of the Philippines after graduation to grab the chance of an open day hiring. Out of 4000 applicants, she was one of the 80 who got in. But unfortunately, fate was not by her side and led her to miss the opportunity.

After such a heartbreaking event, she returned to her home city and worked as a hotelier. She tried her luck for Mutya Hong Butuan 2020 but the pandemic crossed her way.

In 2022, she moved to Cebu City for better opportunities and finally got accepted for her dream career. But in 2023, when she was about to join Mutya Hong Butuan again, she was already accepted for her role as a flight attendant and she had to choose one dream. While at the peak of her flight attendant training, she remained to earn her wings.

Since then, she is currently soaring above 30,000ft sea level as she enjoys the life of a flight attendant while coming back and forth to her home city. She also spends her vacant time as a public speaker – guesting at different universities such as Lyceum of the Philippines – Manila and University of Cebu – Lapu-Lapu. She as well does community voluntary works nationwide and works as a freelance model in Manila and Cebu. While she achieved most of her dreams, she has an unfinished business back home.

Now, she is the Mutya 3 of Mutya Hong Butuan 2024 to be held in Butuan City Sports Complex, Brgy Libertad, Butuan City on May 17, 2024.  She aspires to be someone who could inspire not just the youth, but everyone with dreams. She advocates for HIV and Mental Health and she believes that her current pageant platform will really help her with her cause. One day, she wants to publish an inspirational poetry book and make a legacy towards creating a positive impact to her community wherever her wings will take her. As what she says, “No matter what your past is, or where you come from, you hold the power to make a difference.”
