It’s Okay To Be Sad

Why are we uncomfortable with sadness?
How come whenever we see someone crying, our first instinct is to try and make them stop?

Sometimes we will even make stupid faces just to make them smile.

It’s okay to be sad.
In fact, it’s okay to be very sad.

It’s not a waste of time.

If you’re hurt, you should be able to cry. You should be able to let your tears fall, to sob into the pillow, to scream if need be.
It’s okay if sometimes you don’t want to get out of bed. It’s okay if the sadness makes you miss a day of work.

It’s okay.

You’re not weak for being sad. You’re human.

And as humans, we have to feel our emotions, every single one of them, and , yes, that means sometimes you will feel sad. You will feel as though there’s nothing good in your life. You may even will feel like breaking down.

And I say, go ahead. Embrace it. Savor it, because that experience is a part of life.

It’s okay to be sad. The mere fact that you’re feeling sad means you’re here, you’re alive, and you still have time to feel better.

So next time you feel sad, tell yourself this:

I am sad. And it’s perfectly okay.
