MKTH (Makatha)

MKTH (Makatha), born Rigielle Reyes Pampo on May 24, 1999, in Lingayen, Pangasinan, is a budding rapper and songwriter currently based in Olongapo City, Zambales. He is embarking on his journey to become an independent artist on Spotify.

MKTH’s journey to becoming a songwriter and rapper was fueled by his love for poetry and the need to express himself through words. He began writing poems and prose during college as a pastime. Eventually, he shared them with the school’s editorial team and joined their ranks. As a child, he enjoyed listening to OPMs and popular bands in the Philippines. In high school, his music preferences shifted towards rap after being introduced to Gloc 9 and other Hip-hop artists.

Excellent rap and production. Great song

Discovering his talent for songwriting was a funny moment when his friend mistook his poems for lyrics to a song he was secretly writing. He decided to give it a try since he always wanted to write his own song but lacked the capacity to do so. Trying out free samples on YouTube and recording his lyrics to it was a successful experiment. As he delved deeper into songwriting, he realized that his poetic abilities were perfect for composing heartfelt lyrics. The more he practiced, the more confident he became in his songwriting skills. He spent countless hours crafting each line to create a captivating melody. Positive feedback from friends and family encouraged him to share his music with a wider audience. He created a YouTube channel and uploaded his compositions, trying out MarkBeats and Gloc-9’s 24 Bars Challenge.

Later, he would collaborate with other local artists and join his current group, RPTRD MYNDZ. Together, they started creating tracks that mainly inspire people, share knowledge of the streets, and express love through various hip-hop genres.

Although not yet very popular, one of his most well-known tracks is “Katabi,” which he recorded with the help of Lil PapsiEm. Along with “Pag-amin,” which accumulated 3k streams on Spotify, these songs all revolve around his real-life experiences with love.

With his latest tracks “Home” and “Heal Yourself,” he focuses on expressing the harsh reality of life and hoping that they will resonate with listeners, encouraging them to take charge of their lives and strive for a better and more peaceful future.

MKTH and his crew predominantly grace the stages of Olongapo City’s local bars, striving to bridge the gap between old school and new school hip-hop in the area. Meanwhile, his mentor Nelly is spearheading an event called “Kalye Balagbagan,” extending an invitation to all local rappers to showcase their talents and share their tracks with the public.

This coming October 20, MKTH along with Skyforce, Icy D and Jude the Zaint will release their long coming collaboration titled “Dito Ka Lang”.
