GINANAP noong Nobyembre 8, sa Pandesal Forum ng 78-year-old Kamuning Bakery Café sa Quezon City ang pagpapakilala at demo playing ng Xiangqi (pronounced as “xiang-chi”) 2,500-year-old ancient Chinese chess game. Ipinakilala sa mga mamamahayag ni multi-awarded writer and entrepreneur Wilson Lee Flores (moderator), ang mga tagapangasiwa ng 15th World Xiangqi Championship na magsisimula sa Nobyembre 14 sa Manila Hotel. Inorganisa ng Philippine Xiangqi Federation, na sinuportahan ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF) ang 15th World Xiangqi Championship sa pamamahala ni FCAAF founder Jimmy Chan Cuan; FCAAF president William Gosiaco; Wilson Tan, president Philippine Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Federation; Philippine Grandmaster Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Engr. Asi Ching; Phil. Xiangqi Fed. EVP Charles Chua; at honorary president Jackson Hong. Ayon kay Wilson Tan, ang Xiangqi ay kasama na sa mga sports game ng  Asian Games (XIX Asiad) sa 2022 at kasalukuyan nang nakikipag-ugnayan ang PXF sa National Olympic Committee para masuportahan ng ahensiya ang mga manlalaro ng Chinese Chess, kung saan malaki ang potensiyal at tsansang makakuha ng Asiad gold sa Xiangqi.

“Manila’s hosting the 15th World Xiangqi Championship is a great honor for the Philippines, it will also promote the country’s booming tourism and positive global image. They said xiangqi and other sports should be promoted nationwide, because sport is beneficial for improving mental and physical health. PXF and FCASF thank the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and other supporters behind this event,” PXF-FCASF officers.

Ito ang unang pagkakataong punong-abala ang Pilipinas sa naturang kompetisyon kung saan ang huling World Xiangqi Championship event ay ginanap sa Munich, Germany noong 2015. May tatlong delegate players ang ‘Pinas sa pangunguna ni grandmaster Engr. Asi Ching, at makakalaban ang mga delegado ng (Asean) Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam; (east Asia) China, South Korea, Japan; North America’s U.S. at Canada; Europe’s Germany, Netherlands. Ang event’s hashtag ay #ChineseChessManila2017.
